The electric vehicle instrument cluster harness is a specialized integrated cable assembly that connects the onboard instrument cluster to other vehicle electrical systems, such as the battery management system, vehicle control unit, sensors, lighting, and switches. Its core functions are to supply power to the instrument cluster and establish stable, anti-interference signal transmission channels between the cluster and relevant control units or sensors, thereby driving display functions and enabling data exchange.
This component consists of multiple wires (low-voltage cables) of varying colors and specifications, which are bundled together according to a preset circuit layout via terminals and connectors. The harness typically features a branched design, with the main bundle connecting to the instrument interface, while each branch connects to the corresponding vehicle electrical interface via dedicated waterproof or non-waterproof plugs. The wires must meet requirements for temperature resistance, wear resistance, flame retardancy, and electromagnetic interference suppression. They are usually externally wrapped with corrugated tubes, insulating tape, or braided sleeving for protection and fixation.
The physical structure and electrical definitions of the harness strictly adhere to the vehicle’s electrical architecture and the interface specifications of the instrument system. Its design must consider wiring paths, bending radii, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), and maintenance convenience within limited spaces. The pin material, plating, and locking mechanism of the connectors directly affect contact resistance and connection reliability.
The electric vehicle instrument cluster harness serves as the foundational physical link ensuring the normal display of information such as speed, battery level, gear position, fault warnings, and other vehicle status data on the instrument cluster. Its reliability directly impacts the driver’s perception and judgment of the vehicle’s condition, making it a critical component for the safety and functionality of the vehicle’s low-voltage electrical system.
